CAN YOU SPOT BAD QUALITY?

DO NOT ACCEPT BAD QUALITY

"Anything worth doing is worth doing right."

Hunter S. Thomson said those famous words, but we don't know if he could spot lousy quality himself or if he would accept bad quality. Also, I am not sure the creator of Gonzo's journalism was thinking about kitchen installations in particular. But we don't know that either - do we?

In my world, anyone offering services in exchange for money must be obligated to deliver outstanding quality. But unfortunately, that is not how it is when it comes to kitchen installations.

Years of experience with kitchen installations have provided me with an eye for detail. However, now and then, when I come across other kitchen installers' work, I am not impressed too often.

I am not surprised that anyone would charge money to deliver such poor quality, but it puzzles me that the customer didn't react and ask for the issue to be rectified. But maybe they didn't notice that something was wrong.

How about you? Do you know how to spot bad quality? And more importantly, do you accept poor quality?

Check these examples by pulling the slider from side to side. Can you see why the pictures to the left are wrong?

EXAMPLE A

This is an easy one. The doors in the picture to the left are not adjusted to line up as they should. The doors to the right are much better and almost perfect.

EXAMPLE B

"Grout is my friend" could very well be the motto of the guy who did the valence. Jeez.

EXAMPLE C

Drawer hardware on the left side is positioned all wrong and secured with one screw only.

EXAMPLE D

The rail to the left is not only mounted using the wrong screws but is also cut too short, so a small piece has been added. Not good. The little piece was not even screwed into a stud so the cabinet was hanging all slanted. This is as bad as it gets as the cabinets will be hanging at that exact position on the rail.

EXAMPLE F

This one goes without saying...doh! Inside drawers must be installed with equal space between them of course.
