What I do

My name is Lars Rannes and I run a small business in Ottawa offering Ikea kitchen installation to anyone who values good craftsmanship combined with a fair price.

When you work with me, you are taking advantage of:

Possible saving. Sometimes my installations are cheaper than installations done by TRAEMAND/IKEA, but sometimes they are not. However, I believe they are always better.

My way of working includes great attention to detail and personal customer service throughout – I am punctual, I get it right the first time and hardly ever cancel appointments (only in emergencies).

Why Ikea Kitchen Installation?

Originally I am from Denmark and I moved to Canada from Switzerland in 2013. I love the Canadians and the country so much, that I decided to call Canada my home and in 2018, I became a Canadian citizen.

My background is in mechanical engineering but after working 25+ years in a number of engineer-related jobs, I felt like trying something I would be more passionate about, which is why I started to do Ikea kitchen installations in Ottawa. I still develop products on my own, but my focus is on the installations of Ikea kitchens because that is what I enjoy doing. I’ve been doing home renovation work for over 30 years and until now I have installed more than 175 kitchens.

I love what I do and I believe combining my enthusiasm with my experience is what gets perfect results.

Lars is the best Contractor we have ever used! I don't think I can review Lars as good as he deserves! We just finished an Ikea renovation (and we have never done one before) with Lars. His help was immeasurable with this process was SEAMLESS! His knowledge of the IKEA systems is better than than anyone! Lars created our design for us, as sometimes the Ikea design tool is not the easiest to manipulate, especially if you don't have perfectly square/rectangular kitchen as we did. He tweaked it to work for us as our kitchen was not a perfect "box" shape. Installation of the cabinetry took exactly 1 week. His work is so meticulous and he is responsive to questions and very HONEST. He guided us to a quartz company that he works with who were also phenomenal as well. Lars, we cant thank you enough for your expertise, your impeccable workmanship and your honesty. We are proud show off and boast about your work! The kitchen is the centrepiece of our home. We wanted the look and functionality of a custom kitchen and this was achieved without compromise at a fraction of the cost of custom. We booked Lars in a last-minute cancellation and within 6 weeks we went from preliminary design to a fully functional and beautiful new kitchen. (This feat can only be achieved by someone with exceptional talent guiding us through the process). Lars offered clever adjustments to our design to ensure no space was wasted. We followed his lead with the IKEA order ensuring a seamless process. The installation was a stress-free experience. We were able to live at home with a young child during the renovations with minimal disruptions to our routines. His professionalism and craftsmanship are rare. If you get the privilege of working with Lars, you won’t be disappointed.

Lars is fantastic. If you're having an Ikea kitchen put in, he is your guy. Lars is meticulous in his process and we could not find a single joint or connection out of place. His experience with Ikea products really stands out and he was able to modify an Ikea cabinet to help us salvage a 8" space with a 'customized' cabinet box using their drawer fronts as narrow doors that would have been wasted otherwise! That said, if you know you are going to ask for help with kitchen install, I would recommend having the design-process consult with him. We didn't do this because we'd already had another kitchen designer (plus the IKEA in-house designer) but wish we did. Ultimately, the person who puts these kitchens together daily will have valuable input and there are changes we might have made if Lars had been involved prior to finalizing our order. Lars' communication is excellent and he is very responsive. His Youtube videos are great and answer basically every question you might have about the install process. He won't hesitate to speak his mind if he thinks you're doing something wrong or if he's knows a better way from experience - don't let it rattle you! Better to have an open conversation about challenges than to find out after the fact and need to make changes. If you're going to DIY - then check out his youtube videos. If you're looking for help doing the full install - you won't go wrong with Lars!

With his experience and expertise, Lars made the kitchen renovation smooth and predictable. 1) Communication: Lars makes himself accessible, responds to emails, provides links to his YouTube videos explaining the process of the installation in detail. He tells you specifically what IKEA items you need to order. Lars guides you through the whole process. 2) Work Ethic: Lars is dependable. He notifies you ahead of time regarding scheduling dates for kitchen measurements, installations and any follow-up. He is punctual and tidy with his tools and cleans up after his done. If some IKEA items are on back order, Lars will come at a later date to complete the job. Lars is trustworthy, conscientious and takes exceptional pride in his work. We appreciated working with Lars. Lars took or 80s looking kitchen and turned it into a contemporary masterpiece! It was a joy working with Lars every step of the way. During our initial consultation, he provided great ideas on the layout, functionality, aesthetics. His detailed plans made it a breeze to then deal with IKEA to purchase the various pieces. The actual installation went very smoothly. He showed up on time every day and worked diligently and meticulously. He always cleaned up after every day’s work with his portable vacuum and made sure to protect our other kitchen renos like our newly installed flooring. Lars finished the job within the established timeframe and we are blown away by the quality of his work. Lars also went above and beyond and helped us deal with some issues that stemmed from our IKEA dealings. He also came back after his job was done to help us deal with an issue caused by our contractor. We would hired Lars again in a heartbeat and would strongly recommend him to anyone who is considering an IKEA kitchen. He is UNMATCHED in terms of his expertise, professionalism and quality of work.

Lars installed by new Ikea kitchen cabinets in October 2022. I am extremely happy with the work he's done. l love my new kitchen. Lars is very professional, he really masters Ikea cabinet assembly and install. Lars did an amazing job both in the planning phase and the actual installation phase. He always showed up exactly on time and demonstrated an incredible attention to detail. During the planning, he was able to quickly determine what height cabinets would work, even with two different ceiling heights through the kitchen. After some quick back-and-forths, he had put together an excellent layout for the kitchen. During the actual installation, he was able to get everything assembled and on the walls quickly, which gave a great overview of what everything would look like. At that point, he was able to spot that it would be possible to make a minor adjustment to the design and change some filler space into actual usable cabinet space, which was a huge improvement. During the whole installation process, Lars was friendly and always willing to explain why he would do something in a particular way (and it always seemed like a good choice!). He was respectful of the space and able to work relatively quietly (As quietly as one can do home renovations - Helpful while I was working upstairs). Overall, Lars demonstrated an extreme level of expertise as well as an intimate familiarity with the Ikea product line that he was installing. All of that adds up to an extremely efficient and well put together kitchen that turned out looking and feeling fantastic and sturdy!

From the start of the process until the end, Lars was amazing to deal with. He is very honest and upfront about everything which we loved, he provides detailed explanations and also has useful YouTube videos that I would encourage everyone to watch (even the one on which knobs to select). He explains everything thoroughly and is always quick to reply to your questions (I had a lot). He is very punctual, accurate and he made the process of renovating our kitchen delightful. I would have no issues recommending him to anyone, in fact we already gave his name out twice. I would also recommend getting Lars to do your Ikea kitchen plans (he knows what he's doing) and when it's time for installation make sure to watch the video (Sorting practices) it will save you a lot of time. Ends up saving you money in the end too - When it came time to start work, he was very punctual and ready to start work. - Very professional and works very quickly, again because he knows the products he's working with inside and out - I very much appreciated his high attention to detail when installing everything. Small choices during the installation process can make a big deal in the end result. He will consult you on his ideas just in case. I was very satisfied with his choices (coming from someone who also has a high attention to detail) and answered my many questions during the installation process. Lars remodeled the kitchen in my parents' house earlier this year and has done a fantastic job. He proposed reconfigurating the kitchen and drew it out on Ikea's Kitchen planner, changed the location of the appliances in the plans, built and installed all cabinets, cut all pieces outside, cleaned up the work area after he left. He was always on time, honest and meticulous. Though the kitchen is only 9x13, the smart layout and effective use of space meant that every available inch was used for storage, resulting in a kitchen that feels much roomier than its size would suggest. Lars was so efficient and knowledgeable in Ikea products that he got the whole kitchen wrapped up in a little over 2 days. Excellent service, very fair prices and best money spent on my parents' renovation. If you're on the fence, definitely do not hesitate and contact the guy.

If you think that shopping for cabinets, tap sets, backsplash and appliances is the “ piece de resistance” of a kitchen remodel, think again. I thought that too. But the style, the colour or the price of your kitchen doesn’t guarantee a successful Renovation if the installation isn’t done properly. That is why the search for the right kitchen installer is what you should focus your efforts on. Choosing Kitchen by Rannes was the best and most satisfying part of the remodel. After meeting with me Lars suggested a plan based on my needs, and after a few adjustments I was ready to order my kitchen. Although the pandemic hit us in the middle of the renovation, everything went smoothly and the schedule was kept. I had some concerns about my not-so-straight walls, but Lars has a solution for every problem. Expected or unexpected. Issues came up with the plumbing relocation : Lars solved it. Lars will take the time it takes to get the job done perfectly. There is no room for error. Lars will meticulously adjust or even shorten any standard size ikea part to fit your space. Drawers open smoothly. Cabinet doors line up. Hardware is also aligned perfectly. In the end your IKEA kitchen is basically a custom kitchen. If you want to avoid the headache that normally comes with a kitchen renovation I strongly recommend that you contact Lars. You will be glad you did. ,

I googled “expert IKEA kitchen installation” and Lars was the first hit. I usually use folks that have been recommended by friends but as soon as I met Lars I had a very good feeling. Lars is the best service professional that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He developed a great plan for my kitchen very quickly and was amenable to modifications on design elements when there were things with which I was not entirely satisfied. Lars was truly amazing! The house that I purchased needed a new kitchen, and we practically started the planning of it before I got the keys and access to it. The day after I took possession, Lars came for a quick visit of the house and took measurements then we went back and forth with floor plans via the IKEA planner as well as communicated via email. Lars never missed a beat, and when the time came for install, he was prompt, and worked very efficiently and worked hard. He knew what he was doing and the end result shows. Even when the kitchen was all complete, and my appliances showed up a few days later and the fridge did not fit due to a mix up of the store sending a bigger fridge, Lars came and made the appropriate adjustments for it to fit! Lars installed my IKEA Kitchen, he arrived within minutes of his stated arrival time each morning. He kindly pointed out some assembly errors on some of my other IKEA furniture while he was here and fixed them as well. He has been quite responsive in all the times I've had to message him. He took the measurements, made up the plan, disassembled the old kitchen cabinets, assembled, and mounted everything and I've had no issues with any of it. His price was quite reasonable. I did have to contract a plumber, electrician, and tiling separately but Lars was very up front about this during the initial consultation and planned his work to make sure everything would be ready for them and it was. I would highly recommend asking Lars to install your next IKEA Kitchen.

Not only did Lars provide excellent workmanship but also did it in a Professional, Prompt and Courteous fashion...his Free estimate was Hundred's of $$$'s below his competition and on top of it all took off another $100 when he realized he had overcharged on an item...this was done on his own accord showing how honest he is...!:-)
I would say that if you have the opportunity to utilize his services it would be highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

I highly recommend Lars I feel very fortunate to have found Lars and I felt comfortable with him right from the start.

He made some very useful suggestions for the design of the kitchen, which greatly improved the layout.

He really knows IKEA kitchens, and he did an amazing job installing ours.

Lars is meticulous and pays close attention to detail so you can be assured that the installation will be top-notch.

He is reliable and punctual (it's scary how punctual he is) and since he has installed many IKEA kitchens, he knows how long a job will take him and how much it will cost.

Everything is above board--he doesn't promise anything that he can't deliver. And he's a nice guy with a good sense of humour!

I highly recommend him to anyone who is considering installing an IKEA kitchen!

We recommend Lars I highly recommend Lars Rannes to install your Ikea kitchen.

After working on my husband to let a “professional “ install our cupboards I found Lars after searching various people/companies who will do this.

He arrived promptly at 7:30 every morning and he even sounds like the guy on the Ikea ads!

We had our kitchen done in three days. He was professional and very exact with everything he did.

We had our counter put in two weeks later and then Lars came back promptly to make any final adjustments.

We love our kitchen and my husband, who gutted and renovated our house, therefore reluctant to pay for installation, was extremely pleased. Not only was he impressed with Lars’ knowledge and expertise he was also impressed with the system IKEA has created.

Any of our questions about lighting valances, side panels and cabinet hardware selections Lars always had thoughtful well informed advice.

We are extremely pleased with how well put together our kitchen is and after several months it continues to function as smoothly as when it was first installed.

Lars is a pleasure to work with. Seriously, this guy Lars has done the most professional Ikea kitchen installation for my rental home.

From the start of planning the kitchen to finishing, Lars is a pleasure to work with. Not only did he take into consideration my budget and wants, but also the perspective of the tenant's kitchen issues, after all, they are actually using it.

I am happy that Lars suggested an upgrade for the cabinets as I wanted to use the bottom end of Ikea kitchens. Lars was right, the upgrade looks amazing. After the final design was completed, I informed Lars that I wanted to wait for an Ikea Kitchen event. Then it happened the big Ikea Kitchen Event! It was two to three months later after the initial design but Lars fit us in with our schedule.

Lars even corrected a mistake that was made when I ordered one of the cabinets sizes wrong and replaced it with the right one just because it would look better.

That’s attention to detail.

Lars even installed the flooring when the flooring installer was unavailable, Lars did not let this project lag behind. In four days Lars had installed everything - flooring, cabinets, countertop, microwave, under-counter lighting, dishwasher, taps and even the kitchen sink.

Look no further than Lars, he is detailed oriented and immaculate professional with a sense of humour who actually cares about the outcome of your project. Lars is worth every loonie.

We could not be happier... but I do wonder if he will do Ikea bathrooms? Hmmm... when’s that event start.

He was fantastic to work with! Lars installed our Ikea island. He was fantastic to work with!

He gave us far better advice than the Ikea kitchen consultants themselves, he adjusted what we had ordered to fit our space and gave us great suggestions that both saved us money and made the space work better for our family.

He also arrived exactly on time and finished the work before the schedule.

He is highly recommended!

Amazing work. Lars is incredibly professional, thorough and dedicated.

He took my incredibly crooked walls and ceiling and made an Ikea kitchen look straight.

He is punctual, no BS, no hidden extras, and he found mistakes made by the designer that would have driven an amateur installer nuts trying to figure out.

He even does a follow-up visit to make sure everything is working properly and fine-tunes any issues.

I can't recommend Kitchens by Rannes enough. You will not be disappointed.

Kitchens by Rannes gets two thumbs up from me! I had the pleasure of working with Lars Rannes on multiple projects and they all turned out perfectly.

Our projects included a new kitchen with a matching built-in dining room hutch and a built-in desk, a custom wine cellar, and a custom built-in TV wall unit.

Kitchens by Rannes’ area of specialty is working with kitchens (and he especially loves IKEA cabinetry). It is clear that Lars enjoys the work he does. He assisted us with our entire project, from initial design and measurements to ordering, to installation.

He has a strong work ethic. He works to perfection. His pricing is also very competitive especially given the excellent quality of work provided.

Lars also has a multitude of skills in various areas of home improvement and therefore he has completed countless other projects for me (for example he installed a gorgeous new patterned ceiling in our basement spare room, he also installed various new lighting etc..

Highly recommended Excellent service from start to finish!

Right out of the gate Lars had some suggested mods to the IKEA order which was greatly appreciated. He takes great care with his work and uses meticulous attention to detail.

He did an excellent job of installing our kitchen. I was really glad that I didn't undertake the project myself since the walls were not straight and true.

But Lars carefully adjusted to achieve an optimal result and all at a most competitive price.

I will certainly engage Lars again for future projects of this nature and "highly recommend" him to all.... you are in good hands the Kitchens by Rannes

Very efficient We have used Lars on a few different projects for 2 different homes and we wouldn't think of using anyone else.

He is ALWAYS on time, very efficient and comes with a van-load full of tools.

He has built quite a bit of IKEA furniture for us and done some bathroom reno. He has an artistic eye and often makes suggestions we would never think of.

On top of everything else. He is a very nice man.
